What You Need to Know About Bees & Wasps This Summer
Seeing bees and wasps in the summer is almost inevitable. They could build a nest on your property or just fly around outside your home while they are traveling from one location to another in the pursuit of food. While you’re outside, there are a few things that you should keep in mind about these insects so that you decrease your chance of getting stung. These tips can also help to keep bees and wasps away from your property during the summer.
Keep trash picked up outside around the exterior of the home. Don’t keep any kind of food outside as bees and wasps enjoy making nests near food sources and often swarm around food. You’ll usually see wasps begin to swarm around in June or July when the weather gets hotter. If you see a few wasps, then it’s usually not cause for alarm. However, if there are several swarming around outside, there is likely a nest somewhere that needs to be eliminated. Accel Pest and Termite Control can safely find and get rid of a wasp nest or a bee nest that is on the property so that you don’t get stung.
Understand These Stinging Pests
Bees usually begin to fly around in April or May when the flowers start to bloom and the blooms on the trees start to appear. They are searching for food, and they usually won’t bother you as long as you leave them alone. While you’re walking outside, you should wear shoes with an enclosed toe so that you don’t get stung. Keep leaves and grass clippings raked so that bees and wasps don’t have a place to hide. Bees usually aren’t aggressive. They just want to pollinate flowers and get food to take back to the hive. Wasps are territorial insects and will usually sting if they feel that they are threatened. If you see a wasp nest, wait until later in the evening to try to kill the wasps that are on it before removing the nest. Most wasps will make nests in corner locations of your home, in tree holes or in logs that have been abandoned.
